Hello all! So our roommate moved out, giving us an extra room to play with. I, of course wanted it to be sim central, but my history teacher wife decided she needed an office to do grading in, and I, being the gracious husband I am......... Complained and moaned and lost the argument. BUT! I was able to secure the walk in closet as my own. So I stuck my desk in there and set to work. Some high lights of this iteration of my flying desk include:
a rug to stick the velcro on the bottom of my rudder pedals to
A gas spring monitor mount for the second screen, the ability to move it around in nice and space saving.
As you can see I modified the desk pretty heavily. Getting a lot of mileage from a $30 wal mart desk. Took out a shelf to fit my PC tower between the legs, moved the top shelf up to keep some storage space. (handy place to stick my keyboard and mouse) and today I completed a little shelf under the main desk to put my yoke and throttle on. I used four 12" bolts and a hand full of nuts to clamp it to both the desktop and the added shelf, with wing nuts in the bottom for quick removal if need be. With everything tightened this turned out to be a very cheap and super stable solution. My desk as it was was too tall to use my gaming chair (Capt. Seat) so this lower shelf was needed.
I also screwed some boards to the arms of my chair to mount my HOTAS to for those times I want to fly something a little faster or get lost in space on Elite Dangerous. The HOTAS is also mounted with wing nuts for quick removal.
I also got rid of the original mount for the trackir camera and used velcro tape to bring it down to my level.
I think the next thing I'm going to try is to make a glare shield out of PVC and foam and start building some more panels.
Hopefully I can figure out a configuration where I saw some day have three monitors, but right now two is what I'm working with.
Hope you enjoy my closet project!
