Yes it starts to look like something. For the setup I have a lack of place. I would like to have projectors for a real immersion but I cannot. Thus I started the cabin skeleton with in mind a 40" TV for the front view and 17" side monitors in place of the cockpit left and right windows. Mounted vertically. like this old photo i took during those tests some years ago now "to see". Now you have the bottom monitors driven by Raspberry Pi running AirManager gauges. But the left monitor was too near of me (less than 10cm) and it was not really confortable for my eyes. In the same time I got a 12v power supply failure so I have disconnected the side monitors. I saw your setup with three 40" monitors and it should be immersive !!

I saw your setup with three 40" monitors and it should be immersive !! Yes, my setup (currently 32" screens) is by far the best setup I have tried, although the performance is a problem with three separate displays. There is some talk from LM that the move to DX12 in P3Dv5 shows benefits for mult-screen setups, so at some stage I may upgrade my GPU and move to v5. I think it is key to have some downward visibility to the sides, which is what my setup gives over a flat three-screen display. You can do it with the setup you tried (space permitting!), it's just a different compromise.

Yes I can confirm you that the move from P3D v4.5 and the latest v5 is a real gain in term of fluidity.
By chance, my graphic card, an NVidia GTX1070 6GB, was already DX12 ready. So I give myself a test ride with my configuration.
I realized that the GPU is now really working and unloading the CPU !! LM did a great work. It was our simer dreams since FS9... !!

Hi Just an update : i got multiple problematic at once with my simulator from severals sides : electronic with alimentation (the used PC one is now no more stable), joystick cards not recognized correctly under windows or when they are, they restart themselves during the fly... flat encoders to replace with new ones (I made a shortcut), faces (to hide the screens) damaged .... the overhead levers "going to the windscreen" (I made an bad assomption of the MIP position vs the overhead) and lastly the AirManager update to 3.7 catched me... The Raspberries does not display anything after the image update !
I have decided to consider the version as a the prototype/version 1 and I start the version 2.0 !!
Too many problems... i'll dismount and replace spareparts and reorganize the cockpit using my passed experience...
The instruments facade is now dismounted (the one which hide the 17" screen which is out of service... )
It was quite difficult because if the time spent to build and assemble it ... but it is for a good cause !
Here it is:
Now redesigned in a dedicated software for me to be able to submit the work to a provider to create proper holes I have to rebuild a shell... a real one.... better than the wood bricks I used.... And I am inspired by this site: cessna172sim.allanglen.com/docs/instrument-panel/
It is proper, maintain correcly the screens and the front cover faces will be best positionned and maintained ! I need to find a new 17" screen... I do not know if I will used a used one or buy a new barebone flat screen ; not decided yet..
I will change the joystick cards to opencockpits ones. I hope they will keep on otherwise... it could be my PC motherboard...
Then new power block (5v and 12v stabilized alimentation) ... the one build from a used PC has not taken more than 2 years of on/off..
I need to close the up side of the overhead (the one on the roof side) because my cat is going here to sleep... and it happened she damaged/disconnected wires
I need to put the IO cards somewhere else because it is not practical for my back when wiring up the components too...
And almost the shell reshape to take care of the right sizes ...
I really hope I took the right decision... I'll keep you posted

Oh dear, a bit disappointing. But the build is the thing, so keep going...!

Tonight I made my homework ! one double encodeur of the GNS530 GPS was not fully working..; the frequencies decimales cannot be entered.. nothing happens when I turn the little wheel... It is a dual encoder with push ; ELMA E37 2216 I verified the continuity up to the Arduino MEGA... "nothing strange" On the LeoBobnard web site I found a picture with the pins And a schema to use to diagnose the dual encoder here The test is easy : the LED should blink when the wheel is turned. On one side it is OK, on the other one ... not .... the push is working .... Same as when the GPS was assembled So the sparepart has to be changed !! I will not have bet on that yesterday !!!! Side effect : it is difficult to find this dual encoder in Europe... maybe because of the crisis ... factories down.... So the repair will wait.... Have a nice week-end

It's no fun if you don't have to fix it

Yes .... I finally found Sismo in Italy and ordered from them. Thus I took from them two of this special switch for lights (only found there...)

Thank you Mark The good news of the day is that I have been able to replace the double encoder ELMA 37 with the new one from Sismo. The GNS530 is now back on track and ready to be used again.

Hello Some news : 1) I am still "blocked" waiting for measurements I need to close the cabin. Thus i put the cabin on pause this summer. I think the COVID did not help and real pilots/mecanics i have contacted on dedicated groups did not answered so far because they do not approach a machine now because of flights lockdown... 2) I just created a thread on the Aerosoft editor TwinOtter DHC-6 forum upon on suggestion of you Mark. I hope you will apologize I copied/pasted my cabin thread from here to there to gain time tonight I hope I will post some advancements of my cabin here before the end of this year !! Stay safe Philippe

Good news, you will likely get more exposure over there! Still lookng forward to the Twin Otter in FS2020, and also to Asobo finishing the API. I want to redo my round-the-world flight, but not until I can map the GPS controls to buttons and switches

I read from the aerosoft forums that the DHC-6 for FS2020 is a 2021 project for the editor. The last snapshots they provided are encouraging. Hope our hope will be exhausted !!

Hi Gentlemen, Binky here. I'm new to the Almost Aviation site, but as a T'wotter builder, I am going to find it invaluable. I've already has some discourse with MarkH, and hopefully Philippe, you will have some answers to a couple of my queries too. But in the fist instance, just want to say that both your cockpits are gorgious, and would give me great joy to test if it was possible. My own efforts are S-L-O-W and it is the time element that stops me powering through to a flyable machine at this time. Like yourselves, it's always great to be building, but I look forward to having more time to spend on my own Caravan Sim. Caravan Sim Yes. My first Sim build was an RAF2000 procedural simulator for the Gyrocopter I loved and flew. I built it in the Keller (celler) of my home in germany, but the big limitation is ... I can't get ever move it without totally dismantling the thing. So it prompted me to make a simulator that I can actually move around - hence a 2 berth Caravan. I will open a thread eventually and publish my build here sometime soon, but in brief, my Twotter simulator is better than the real thing, because it has a real chemical toilet and kitchenette at the rear ( even a shower if you're so inclined.. for those really long-haul flights ?? ) hahaha. But it's a work in progress and I have many panels to build and moreover, interfacing to be done. best regards, and keep building.. Binky Karlsruhe in Germany
