I'm thinking about buying Orbx Trees HD. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm wondering about visuals, performance, installation, conflicts with other software, errors, FTX Central 2 settings, etc. Thanks.

I bought it and it installed okay. To be honest I wasn't sure if it was installed or not, I could see no immediate WOW difference (but then maybe I don't really have it installed ). I tried flying out of Caloundra in Oz and then Israel's Farm and Darrington in PNW. For the PNW flight I set my TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD to 2048. Still playing, so I am sure I have not seen the full effect - I will try in Oz where I can expect some tropical vegetation - someone said flying out of Aeropelican looked good so I will try that next. If it helps the performance, then I'm all for it. It was relatively cheap!

Yes, the price is inviting! I will likely buy it as well.
I've read mixed opinions on HD Trees, ranging from amazing performance increases and outstanding visuals, to no noticeable increase with no apparent visual differences... some due to not checking it in FTX Central.
I need to download and read the manual but, I'm wondering if TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD is a prerequisite to HD Trees because mine is set to 1024. It's been some time since I've fiddled with the fsx.cfg file once I got it right for my system but, seems like adjusting that didn't make a lot of difference for me in general so I left it as is. Doesn't it reset to 1024 with any config changes anyway, trying to remember? What are your thoughts on HD Trees in regards to TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD?
For grins, I've attached my notes on the fsx.cfg file for my system. I realize this is off-topic and may be better placed on another thread. Also realize it may be opening up a can of worms since there are endless opinions on the "fsx.cfg" topic! haha. My notes are what I've experienced with my PC's and they may not be correct. Some of the entries were for an older PC without NVidia Inspector. Notes are pretty vague too.
Thanks for the input!

I need to download and read the manual but, I'm wondering if TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD is a prerequisite to HD Trees because mine is set to 1024 Me too. The manual says you don't need TML=2048 except in FTX NZ, for some reason. I have had a quick try flying from Aeropelican to Warnervale and I do think I am seeing the new trees. There is more of a 3D look to them en masse, like they are actually rolling mounds of stuff rather than cardboard cutouts. They still are cardboard cutouts up close, of course! Can't say yet whether the performance is better but from reading the forums and the manual it is more or less guaranteed to be equal or better. I don't understand why but they are unequivocal, so I am happy to accept it. I will do some more experiments in due course and feed back.

It's interesting that you've mentioned TML because Orbx just released Devils Tower National Park FREEWARE and the manual mentions TML and some other settings. Now I'm wondering if I've been missing something with previous Orbx payware I've purchased! I don't recall any manual focusing on TML.
From the Devils Tower manual:
In configuration file fsx.cfg (prepar3D.cfg) need to change: TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 To better focus a LOD_RADIUS > 4.5000000 (file FSX.CFG, P3D.CFG), suggest 9.5000000. The density autogen is important to be able to see all the buildings and cars placed. Compatibility and necessary library. The scenery has been built for FSX and P3D v.1.4, 2.4 and 2.5 Orbxlibs (latest version) for FSX or P3D. Compatibility confirmed with: 1) FTX Global 2) FTX Vector Tested with a mesh setting of 5 m

To better focus a LOD_RADIUS > 4.5000000 (file FSX.CFG, P3D.CFG), suggest 9.5000000. 9.5?! Good luck!

I have a stable OC at 4.8GHz and have a feeling frame rates would tank with those kind of settings! I have issues at times with TBM 1024 and LOD of 4.5. Speculating till I try, though.

I tried the TML=4096 and LOD=9.5 and can't see any graphical or performance difference with Orbx Devils Tower. So, I'm guessing Orbx Trees HD will look about the same to me regardless of my TML setting.
