Well, I installed (then uninstalled and reinstalled) the optional Windows Update component GWX on at least one of my PC's (this one). I've briefly skimmed some sites regarding FSX and Win 10 and , for the most part, it looks favorable. I'm currently using Win 7. It will be hard to pass up a free upgrade.
Is anyone here going to move to Win 10 when it becomes available? FSX is so old now that I'm a bit concerned about making this move, especially since I've invested so much time understanding how to tweak FSX for my machines and due to the shear number of add-ons I've invested in.
Are FSX users going to have to move to P3D or XP10 because of this upgrade? I think both sims are great but, I dread my learning curve associated with this option.
I've been building my own computers now since about '95 and I've never "upgraded" an OS, always a fresh format and clean install. I've always heard (and seen) upgrades as problematic. Any thoughts on this "upgrade" in regards to FSX as opposed to an OS format and full install?

No real ideas about this except to note that it's only free for a year. On the other had as it's a download I doubt it would be installable on a new PC a year or two on, so might as well stay with Windows 7 until something breaks and I really need it. I only have Windows 7 on my FSX PC because Panel Builder stopped supporting XP after I'd already bought it. I remember a big fuss when Windows 7 came out as it was going to break a lot of stuff (device drivers and apps) but most things just continued working for me. I will probably install Windows 10 on my desktop PC just to see what it's like. As for upgrade v clean install, I suppose a clean install is better if you can be bothered. Win7 didn't allow an upgrade from XP and I think I read that 10 isn't going to allow an upgrade from 7. One last thought is I'm just about to put a new CPU in my desktop PC, so I expect Windows 10 will wipe out any benefit from that

After a little more searching, I did find that once you install the free upgrade, you will then have the option to do a clean install. This Win7 PC is already confirmed to be eligible for the upgrade... if you trust MS GWX notification icon!
In regards to your last statement, do you mean you think Win 10 overhead will overshadow performance benefits of your new CPU?

It is free for always, if you install within 12 months after release. Updates are always free. There is no additional license fees if you install within the first 12 months. After that, if you want it, there will be charges.
