Hi. I am 48 years old, plays bass in a Norwegian 70/80s progrock band named TerraMater, check us out on ITunes. its called Protheus. i came across this blog and fell for it, its very detailed from the start and i therefore are building me my own version of the MarkH Twin Otter using a combination of Goflight gear, im in the planning stage of building and going to buy the hardware for the rest of the software, right now i only have 3 GF-166, 1 GF-RP48, AND THE GF-MCP PRO, one 22" Samsung to drive the Capt instruments, planning to use 2 more as the keyboard player in TerraMater is a flightsim nerd also and i hope to fly with Copilot within 2 years. i will take pictures when i feel the time is right :-) thx MarkH for the motivation on building this

Hi all - Just checking in I'm a P3D 3.4 Twin Otter fanatic. Don't have a home cockpit per se but run three computers, two Androids and a CH Yoke mounted Ipod touch. Still improving things especially with the look and feel of the graphics, now moving on to control setups. May seem base over apex approach but Prepar3d has lways been about 'preparing' rather than actually doing I'm retired (at 50) from a career in ATC at Gatwick and Heathrow and now live on a remote island in the Shetlands with 70 others and many more sheep. Anyway enough from me looking forward to joining (belatedly) this gathering.

Prepar3d has lways been about 'preparing' rather than actually doing Ha, you don't need P3D to spend more time 'preparing'! About this time in 2014 I was talking about building a sim pit to do some 'serious flying'. I have yet to get to that part...

Hello Mark. Like you, I was thrilled by Nite Flite all those years ago and haven't looked back since. I currently have a basic set-up built round a desk in my study where I usually fly a Boeing 737-200 using FSX. I'm hoping to take the flight experience further by adding more physical controls to replace mouse clicks. Looking forward to learning from you and your forum fans.

Hi Mark,
CONTENT WARNING: As I am closing in on “mile marker” 70, I caution that the following ramblings may not be in any coherent order, nor make much sense at times. That’s my excuse anyway. You have been warned. ;-)
About me: Retired and live in the San Diego area. First off, let me say that I have been following your forum for several years and have enjoyed watching your You Tube FlightSim videos. I also have your 1st Kindle e-book. I very much appreciate the time and effort you take to record your flightsim journey and your sharing it with all of us. I have learned quite a bit from it all (sadly, probably forgot a lot of it by now) and it has motivated me to get off my backside and actually start building something.
I have been playing around with some sort of FlightSim since 1986 or so. Over the years I have accumulated some equipment (listed below), which I've tinkered with, but never fully implemented. Then I got more interested in visiting all the blogs and forums and never got started on building anything specific. Part of my procrastination has been due to analysis paralysis. What simulator to run, which equipment to buy or build, etc. What interfaces to use (Bodnar, Pokeys, Arduino, etc, etc, etc). Do I build my own yoke, buy a Saitek, a Yoko, a Brunner, etc, etc, etc. So I guess you can see where this is going.
I currently have a flightsim capable PC with three 27” monitors set up on a long table, as sort of a test bench. I am using a yoke, throttle quad, rudder pedals, trim wheel, modified keyboard, and TrackIR5 for a cockpit. I also have a GoFlight Comm stack. My plan is to re-acquaint myself with FSX-SE by going over some basic flight training and then try to pick a new flightsim program once the FSW, XP and P3D dust settles, so to speak. I hope to make a decision within a year or so at most.
My desire is to build a generic GA twin prop cockpit with enough flexibility to fly singles or a twin jet like the CRJ. This probably means keeping a mouse and keyboard on ready standby. Sadly I bought the GoFlight comms before I discovered your panels. One of those impulse-buy things.
I do have a question concerning Nvidia surround, VC and TrackIR. After I set up surround and span the view, I undock and drag VC side views to left and right, which seems to work well. However, when engaging TrackIR, only the front view is affected. I know by watching your video, #42 I think it is, you have managed to engage TrackIR on all three views. What am I doing wrong?
Also, do you have any sort of subject index for your videos? I can’t seem to find any.
Well, thanks for reading thru all this and thanks again for what you do.
Regards, Len

watching your video, #42 I think it is, you have managed to engage TrackIR on all three views. What am I doing wrong? Hi Len. In a nutshell, you are using three separate views. I have never done this in FSX, mainly for performance reasons. I use a single window across all the three screens. The downside is you do get the distortion at the extremes, which I only really started to dislike when I went to wide-screen monitors and began to compare it with the multi-window setup in X-Plane. In X-Plane, the TrackIR moves all three views. From your description, it seems in FSX it only moves the main view. You might investigate addons like Opus FSI or EZCA 2 to see if they change the TrackIR's behaviour. You have given me pause for thought, though. I am vaguely intending to go to P3Dv4 at some time soon, mostly when I can be bothered to install Windows 10. I was hoping the multi-viewport features of P3D would let me use independent views like X-Plane, but it maybe that this has the same TrackIR restriction you describe. Perhaps I will ask around in some of the forums. Anyway, you are on the right track and have a good haul of hardware. I take your point about 'analysis paralysis', but in recent months (years) I have started to take more of a tinkering route and just try things out. At the moment I am bouncing back and forth between X-Plane and FSX...

Thanks for the reply Mark. I'll look into the addons you mentioned. I agree with your sentiment about tinkering. Just trying stuff out gets me more interested.
I have been tinkering with Arduino Mega boards, but am at the very early stages of learning to program them. Forget about trying to learn Linda at this stage. I have managed to do a USB upgrade to an older style PRC Cirrus yoke, which I got off of Ebay for a very good price. Although sold as used, I don't think the yoke was ever used. I originally bought the PFC with the intention of using the handle on a DIY FFB yoke, but I found the unit to be such an improvement over the Saitek, that I can't find myself dismantling it.
I switched from Windows Vista to Windows 10, when I bought my dedicated FlightSim PC. I have not had any problems with it using FSX-SE.
Good luck with your P3DV4 research. I'll be following your posts and vids.
/Len

Hope this is the right place to say Hello and thanks for your work helping newbees! I am running FSX SE and Saitek hardware also I have vr insight micropropit which I haven't got plugged in to the updated computer yet. So I think I need FSUIPC 4 and have now discovered SPAD and Linda exist! So will I need all 3? Help Guidance would be welcome Thanks Joe

Likewise LINDA. FSUIPC maybe, that wil save your setting independently for different aircraft. I guess if you can program that TPM switch panel you might want SPAD or LINDA. I don't know about the VRI panel, so you're on your own there

Hello All: The forum was recommended to me as a source for information on interfacing panels in the pit to the flight sim. I am happy to say that after a great amount of reading, it is that and a lot more. The members here appear to be a close knit yet sharing bunch of similar minded folks. It's great to be accepted into the group and learn new things and hopefully contribute as well. I'm current an ABCockpit with hopes of building a full size, somewhat scale F-16 cockpit. Weather here in the north country is quite cold now so cutting will have to wait for the warmer weather. Started out flying "Strike Commander" back in the early 90's and have flown all the "MS" from 5.1 to 98, 2000 all the way up to FSX-SE as well as all three CFS sims. Also own a dozen and a half or so other flight sims that I keep loaded on four (I hate to get rid of them just because the OS is out dated)computers. I have loaded up Falcon 4 with the latest BMS modification on my new (last year) Alienware. Love the jets but find the gliders soooo relaxing. Plan to spend drinking this all in. Thank you to all in advance. Ha, another cool setup (but you need a bigegr screen!) Things are quiet around here these days but you can change that...
