MARK, a quick question. I was reading in your book where you are using the encoders with a push switch. Are the push switches needed for the encoders if you are only using them to change the readout (LCD or LED)? I see that these encoders can be purchased with or without the push switch. When it comes to programing encoders I am a total basket case. thanks, HP

No, the encoders do the same job regardless - they just appear as two separate switches (one for left and one for right). I use the push switch as a SHIFT key - but if you want a SHIFT key it can be any other switch, it doesn't have to be the centre push. That said, I would recommend the encoders with the push switch anyway. You can use the centre push for the active/standby switch, for example. I also use one for TrackIR pause button.
