This is about racing simulators but, I think it applies to flight simulators as well. Nothing new here really, just racing simmers view on wider, curved monitors. At first glance, it seemed great for FSX/P3D. After consideration, I realize there may not be much if anything to gain for GA cockpits with current FSX/P3D limitations. Still, I hope it's interesting to watch.
I assume it would still require "Wideview" for an immersive "side window" experience without TrackIR (like being able to sufficiently see the landing strip on a downwind leg)? Would three wider monitors suffice as opposed to four or five smaller monitors and Wideview?
Is there much to gain from a wider monitor in terms of the front instrument panel horizontal view?
Any thoughts on their vertical size? (Track IR would still be necessary I guess, for vertical viewing).
Any thoughts on how FSX/P3D scenery would look without the virtual cockpit and a physical cockpit built around the monitors as they are positioned, particularly in conjunction with Wideview? Without Wideview?
Would the virtual cockpit view seem ridiculously wide if the monitors were placed in more of a 45 degree fashion, without Wideview?
Are there too many pixels to push for CPU intensive software like FSX/P3D regardless of top-of-the-line video cards if used without Wideview? Would the absence of virtual cockpit improve frame rate in this regard?
Thoughts anybody?
Thanks

Lots of questions there - I won't attempt all of them For me, the killer here is the vertical resolution 1080, which I think is too low. Vertical resolution is more important for a flight sim because it becomes critical at low altitudes. To get proper side views you only have two options - Wideview or multiple windows. Some claim that P3D is better with multiple windows but I doubt it's that much better. All that said, I would think using this layout would be better with than, say, a 40" TV (80dpi v 55dpi)but you would still need TrackIR as the vertical height isn't much more than your average desktop monitor. Number of pixels? Even with a single view it is an awful lot (9Mp). Again, some claim to run this many pixels well with Titan X and the like, but (a) I am doubtful and (b) these cards are expensive. But honestly, if I found you could run this acceptably on a single PC I would start looking at a 3-PC Wideview setup using 4K monitors. I would probably also lose the TrackIR and use a proper instrument panel made with Air Manager.

Yeah, I keep asking the same questions over and over don't I? Isn't that pretty much the definition of insanity? :-) Don't answer that!
