Welcome to the forum. I haven't done this before so please be patient. There are about a million things I could tinker with but I think I should just keep things simple for now!
It appears that attachments (including pictures) don't show up unless you are registered. This is not intentional but I don't know how to change it without putting my pictures off-site and linking to them.

Hi Mark. I am one of your YT subs and like what you do. I'm not so much a sim man but use a R22 cockpit to fly my remote choppers/planes and Quads. This is a work in progress and in the last 12 months i have learnt so much about flying.
Youtube Name Is autoskids. Here is a link to a video so we can prove it works:
Mark I wish you all the best for your new adventure.
Edit!!! I think i should get something for free as i'm first to join. lol
Cheers Mick B.

Woo, I think that's cooler than flight simming - that's the real thing! It looked a bit windy on the landing. Can you fly low-level with your gear or do you need to keep line-of-sight with the transmitter?
(P.S. I changed your link to embed the video!)

Thanks Mark. Dont you worry i had a lot of hours on the sim learning how to fly a chopper ( I'm not a pilot ) and when it was time for the first test flight i was totally committed because landing is the worst part and i don't have any of the fancy autopilot gear on my choppers.
That landing was the worst one i have successfully done and how i didn't get a tail strike from that i don't know. Because the camera is mounted on a very soft mount i think it made it look worse than it really was. ( but it was still bad ) they say any landing you walk away from is a good one and that's the best thing about what i'm doing. LOL
I have a lot more i want to do on the cockpit side of it and one of the big things is setting up the dash panel to be more realistic. I have the original console and would like to pull that little screen apart and mount it into that, so i can set up some more realistic gauges. The hardest part for me is how to get the eagle tree telemetry information to connect with the generated gauges.
You guys that build sims do this sort of thing all the time, I have had a bit of a scratch around on the net but i don't really know what i'm looking for and it's not that high on the list of things i must do. ( but it will happen )
As for flying low, With the 5.8g video gear i'm using it wont go through green trees very well so i stick with line of sight with the choppers and when i'm flying a foam plane i will take some more risk ( i can buy the plane for the same price as a set quality rotor blades for the 600 )

Really nice mark that you have setup this forum but to register is a complete pain. I Follow you on your channel and its superb but it would be nice if you could expand on FSX and not just the twin otter. No offence mark but we all have our favourite aircraft so it would be nice to talk about some default or your favourite aircraft in FSX just my thoughts mark with out offending you.

Its pretty awesome to see that you have a forum now. I have been following you for 3 or 4 years on YouTube, and I definitely enjoyed your "Home Cockpit Build" series.
My own flight simulation setup? Well, I am pretty simple right now, with a Saitek X52 and a 32 inch TV as a monitor.

I Follow you on your channel and its superb but it would be nice if you could expand on FSX and not just the twin otter. I will probably do some more stuff on other aircraft before long but for the moment I will be putting a bit of effort into the panels as a spin-off from the TWO cockpit. I will be posting a few videos about using the panels with other aircraft soon, although obviously this is still quite specifically about using a GPS and Autopilot. Other things on my radar (but no promises) are the LHC Lear Jet, KCFS Republic Seabee and maybe one of the A2A GA planes. I am also playing with Air Rietveld's Air Manager, with two particular (and slightly off-centre) applications in mind. Sorry you are having trouble registering. I think you said elsewhere it wouldn't accept the password? I can't see how to change the password strength settings anywhere so I guess you're stuck with it. A mix of letters and numbers ought to work.

Hello All and hello fo our Host Mark!
I found Mark's YT channel some months ago. It's very interesting especially because 'i'm Twotter fan too. I now plan converting my configuration to a pit, first step will building a cockpit. I've standard Saitek elements now. Mark, a question to You: how do You resolve backlit of panels?

Gabor HA-BEN I have never really got the backlighting right for my Twin Otter, mostly because I used just one paper insert for the graphics. I have tinkered and gotten some semi-okay results but I haven't persisted. I plan to do some experiments with my new panels and see if I can get a good backlit panel. I will report back here and I will include any conclusions in the construction manual/notes. I have bought HP premium paper (100gsm) and I am fairly confident that two sheets with the printed graphics will give a good result.
Keep us posted about your Twin Otter conversion!

Hello Mark!
Thanks for the idea, I was thinking (on photo paper to print). Unfortunately, I can try out the new year, as we have, correspondents about it. In the meantime, good flight, everyone!

Hi All
Power lines are hard to see from any craft at the best of times, but when you use a camera and vtx the image quality drops off a little and it makes them almost impossible to see even when you know they are there, so i try to fly over what you can see. ( poles etc ) or i just fly very low and pass under them.
Mark i watched some of your other older videos over the last couple of days and i have got to say you have put a lot of work into what your doing, Thanks and Keep up the great work.
Cheers Mick B.

Hello all. I've just recently registered, but have been following Almost Aviation for a couple of years now. I have used various versions of MSFS, but now have FSX-SE loaded. I have started building a dedicated simpit and have a new PC, three Dell monitors, Saitec controls, and Goflight comms [impulse buy ;-) ]. My goal is to build a generic GA pit for flying single and dual engine. Mark I am impressed with the ingenuity you have shown in your Twin Otter build and very much appreciate the time and effort you have put into your videos and forum comments. I visit all the regular flightsim forums, but I like this place, as it seems more like the pub down the street where everyone knows your name.
I have a lot of ideas rolling around in my head, so may be posting more later.
Regards/Len located in sunny Southern California

Ideas always welcome, photos too! It's a bit quiet around here but I am still working on my cockpit. It's in pieces today as I'm moving stuff around trying to make space for two new monitors...
