Hi Mark I've been watching your YouTube videos and thought I'd better join your group. I'm building a sim at the moment too.

Hey guys new member here checking in, I just got your book in the mail today Mark and very exited to start building some panels, I haven’t looked around the forum at all yet but I am hoping to find any information at all pertaining to Dcs World, Digital Combat Simulator, as that is the sim I mostly use. I wanted to stop by here first and thank you for all your efforts in helping us fellow armchair aviators! Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the encouragement. There isn't much happening here these days, although I do keep checking in for activity. I don't think you're going to find anything on DCS either.
I still fly the P3D Twin Otter a bit but I am sort of struggling tofind something to keep the enthusiasm going. At the moment it's a balance between new stuff like Orbx True Earth scenery and the performance hit of trying to run multiple screens. I think I may end up going to a single screen and the virtual cockpit when 2020 comes out, although it will be good to see what features thay might offer for multi-screen and cockpit builders.

Hi all, I am new to this forum I discover now reading the AlmostAviation books on my Kindle I am an aviation enthousiast and simer on first FS9 and FSX then now P3D. I am flying virtualy on the IVAO network it brings "an as real as it gets" situation I enjoy sharing with others virtuals pilots and controlers. I mostly flew light planes Beaver, Cessna for years but when I discovered the DHC-6 TwinOtter from Aerosoft I fall in the charm of the plane. I started around 4 years ago now a private pilot licence lessons on a local aeroclub and I passed the exam in March 2018 and now I fly as I can on real light planes.
After the simulator era, the simer dream one Parralelly of my private pilot lessons I have started the project to build an home cockpit based on the DHC-6-300 TwinOtter because for me it is the most versatile aircraft for a simer :
It can go everywhere on the planet. Even on short runways with its STOL capacity using wheels, skys, floats...you cannot be bored with it !!
Thus this construction has been somehow put on hold and at its slowest speed because of my preference for real flights of course.
Normally during the bad season I make progress and then the project turns in standby during the good weather season. I will open a thread to present you my actual setup. Bye Philippe

Thanks Philippe. It is good to see other enthusiasts out there, especially for the Twin Otter. It is very quiet around here but I will be happy to see some details of your project. Of course, we're all waiting for the new sims to drop (P3Dv5 next week, FS2020 sometime soon). I am encouraged that Aerosoft said a while back that a new Twin Otter might be their first project for the new Microsoft sim.

It is quite because it is oriented around the TwinOtter too. But at least we are "between us"
yes I saw the announce for the P3D v5. At least Direct12 support it will help using fully our graphics cards...
It will be awesome to see a new TwinOtter in the future FS2020 !!! Wait and see.

Hi Mark and All, I joined a few days ago and thought I'd introduce myself. In the distant past I had CPL/IR/Instructor/Owner 1000hrs total time. It's a longish story but I changed ny ailing PC about a year ago before I even thought about simming and I don't have the graphic capability for anything other than FSX. I can't justify an upgrade at this stage. During the year I have learned a bit - mainly that I don't know much. I'll put a picture on the project section of what I have - and maybe a question or two? Really enjoy the videos Mark, thanks for doing them.

Hello. Have you given MSFS a try? I thought the same about performance but I was pleasantly surprised that my PC ran it pretty well. The open world makes all the difference. I have been doing less simming in general, and most of what I have been doing is the customary fiddling to set things up and make them work with my hardware panels. One day I might actually start flying As it happens, today I am reinstalling my instrumen tpanels screens in preparation for getting Air Manager running again. Unfortunately you won't see a lot of action in this forum, it's mostly just a relic now. But I do check in every day, so feel free to post things and get the conversation going!

Hi Mark,
I'm open to any ideas. I replaced the PC with a NUC10 i5 not realising then that I would get interested in simming. The integrated graphics are okay for FSX but I think limited to 256mb of RAM. I did try running MSFS and it wouldn't run very well at all. I also tried X-plane - same (expected) result.
I have wondered about an ext graphics unit but that's quite an investment but may be the answer. Any thoughgts?
This'll make you smile. My very, very first involvement in FS was buying one. The real thing. I bought a Link D4 from Dan Air and installed it at Duxford Museum - an attraction at £1 a go. Happy days. It was based on a DH Dove because it was operated initially by the CAA for IR renewals. Actual flight tests were in a Dove.

Hi Mark, I'm trying to settle on a new aircraft to spend time with. I seem to find something that appeals only to find later that something isn't quite right for me. I quite like hand-flying but find that most aircraft have an annoying habit of resisting being trimmed out - you end up porpoising along for miles and even then a moment's inattention and you climbing/descending at a rate of knots. I use a trim wheel that is assigned using FSUIPC so it has the full 16,000 axis range, so tiny movements are possible but I still get the drift. Is the Twin Otter the same, or is it stable?? Maybe I could try that. I'd appreciate your opinion. (Still FSX!). Roger

I always found triming a bit hit and miss too, when it mattered I'd generally switch the AP on and let it trim the ALT hold, then switch it off again. Not what you want to hear, I know I will try it out in MSFS and report back...
